We’re excited to introduce a powerful new feature to the Zype Streaming Platform, AI-powered translations and subtitle generation. This new capability, available to all Zype users starting Monday, July 28th, lets you use the power of AI to translate video transcriptions into multiple languages with ease. You can localize your Zype-hosted videos and improve the streaming experiences for global audiences by providing translated subtitles in local languages in just a few clicks. This is the second AI-enabled feature we’re launching in the platform, following our first launch of AI-powered transcriptions and subtitle generation.
What’s New?
Using AI and machine learning, this update allows you to automatically translate transcriptions of the spoken content of your Zype videos into multiple languages and generate language-specific subtitles. With this new capability you can:
- Create multi-language variations:
- Translate transcribed video or audio into multiple languages, with no limitations on number of translations per video
- Ability to pre-define languages transcribed for use with API or MRSS import workflows
- Generate multilingual subtitles:
- Automatically generate multilingual subtitle files (SRT, WebVTT)
- Automatically enable subtitles across web, mobile, playout, and live
- Make language-specific edits:
- Edit translations in Zype’s built-in Transcript Editor
- Manage text replacements to customize translations per language for context corrections
This new capability is ideal for content creators or media companies who want to expand their global reach, add subtitles for compliance or accessibility, or want to more easily generate regional metadata from multilingual transcripts.
Why It Matters:
Whether you’re distributing to international audiences or just want to improve accessibility of your content on a global scale, Zype’s new AI-powered translation tools allows you to expand to new markets and provide localized video streaming experiences.
This new AI-powered translation capability helps Zype users:
- Reach new markets by localizing your on-demand video content
- Improve accessibility and meet closed caption compliance standards
- Eliminate manual workflows with AI-powered automation
- Enhance viewer engagement with native-language subtitles
How it will work:
Multi-language transcriptions can be produced for both existing video or audio assets in the Library, as well as for newly imported videos.
For existing videos in the Library:
Multi-language translations and subtitles are only generated once a user initiates a translation from the original transcription. To begin, navigate to the Edit Video view and open the Transcriptions tab for the video you wish to translate.
Click the “+” button, select your desired target language, and click Translate. The AI will begin generating the translated transcription, which typically takes a few minutes. Once complete, the translated version will appear in the Transcription Editor and corresponding subtitle files will be available.
For newly imported videos:
To make translating content at scale even easier, you have the option to pre-define a set of translation languages under AI Enablement Settings, allowing videos to be automatically transcribed into those languages upon import. This is especially useful for bulk ingestion workflows, such as MRSS feeds or when using the Zype Import or Upload APIs.
Note: When using MRSS feeds, you must be transcoding and storing the files with Zype in order to utilize these features.
Making Edits to Translations:
Translations can be edited on the fly, with text replacements. Text Replacements—a feature that automatically identifies and replaces specified keywords or phrases based on your custom rules. This allows you to tailor translations to your preferred terminology, grammar, or dialect. You can also enable automatic text replacements for specific languages, ensuring consistent application across all translated content.
Generating Multi-Language Subtitles
Subtitles will be automatically created and enabled once the Translated Transcription is created. SRT and WebVTT formats will be made available for all web players and mobile apps. The SRT files are available for Playout and Live use cases and can be interstitched into those respective outputs for closed-caption compliance.
How will I be charged?
Zype customers are billed based on the number of minutes of video translated. Each account includes 300 free minutes per month, which now covers both original transcriptions and translations into additional languages. Minutes beyond the 300-minute monthly allotment are billed at $0.05 per minute, under the SKU “Transcription and Translation Minutes.”
Translation usage is tracked separately from original transcription minutes in the Zype Usage Dashboard, with metrics updated daily. Any charges incurred beyond the free tier will be reflected in your monthly invoice.
The ability to generate subtitle files (SRT and WebVTT) from translated transcriptions is included at no additional cost.
