We’re thrilled to unveil Zype’s next-generation player, powered by our new partnership with Bitmovin. This major upgrade leverages Bitmovin’s Player X—one of the industry’s fastest and most adaptable playback engines—to bring unmatched performance and customization across all Smart TV platforms, Zype CMS web embeds, Apps Creator web apps, and mobile app platforms.

With a modular architecture, faster load times, and a growing plugin ecosystem, Zype’s new player is built to adapt to your needs—whether you’re streaming on-demand content, hosting live events, or curating binge-worthy playout channels.

What’s new?

The new Zype player offers improved performance, new features, and advanced playback capabilities including: 

• Lightweight & Performant:
  • Faster start times: 30% faster load time and reduced time-to-first-frame over custom Video.js implementations
  • Optimized page loading: Smaller bundle size for faster page performance optimized for short-form content and seamless content switching
• Advanced Playback Capabilities:
  • Uninterrupted Streaming: Picture-in-Picture (PiP) miniaturized player mode to keep videos visible while users scroll or multitask

    

  • Easier Navigation: Thumbnail preview scrubbing for easier content navigation with the ability to leverage keyboard hotkeys (←/→ to skip back or forward)
• Tools to Increase Engagement:
  • “Next Up” Promotion: “Continue Watching” overlay with countdown timer and preview thumbnail

    

  • Improved Accessibility: Subtitle & closed-caption support with optional brand logo overlay

How do I get the new player?

The rollout begins Monday, June 9, 2025 and will occur in phases starting with Apps Creator web-based Smart TV platforms, CMS & Apps Creator web embeds, and Apps Creator native mobile apps. Newly created Apps will default to the new Zype’s New Player.  The rollout of the new player will be completed for all customers by June 30th.

What’s Changing?

Zype’s new player will replace previous players across key platforms in the following phases:

This rollout will happen automatically—there is no action required on your part. Your existing web embeds and supported apps will automatically switch to the new player during the rollout windows.
