We are excited to announce the launch of Zype's first set of AI-powered features: the ability to generate AI-powered transcriptions and subtitles. Starting April 4th, these new AI-powered tools will be available for all Zype customers to leverage.
Our new AI-powered capabilities leverage speech-to-text translation that will allow you to easily transcribe both newly uploaded content and existing video content within your Zype library. These are just two of the new AI-enabled features that Zype is working on, with more exciting AI-powered features coming later in the year.
What is new?
All Zype customers will be able to leverage new product settings to enable AI-powered speech-to-text transcription and subtitle generation across all video stored in the Zype CMS platform. This means you will be able to automatically generate transcripts and subtitles for all newly uploaded and existing content within your video library, improving accessibility for all Zype-hosted assets.
- AI Transcription: All customers will have the option to generate AI transcription of Zype-hosted VOD content
- AI Subtitle Generation: Zype will automatically generate subtitles from AI transcriptions. These subtitles will be available in both SRT and WebVTT sidecar formats
How it will work:
Transcriptions and Subtitles will only be generated once a user has made the selection to transcribe specific content. Transcription is currently not automatically conducted on all Zype-hosted videos by default.
To generate AI Transcription, you will need to select each or batch of videos you wish to transcribe.
For content newly imported into Zype:
- For each newly uploaded or imported video, you will have an option to automatically generate a transcript upon upload on the "Import & Upload" page by selecting “Transcribe Video” when uploading videos, or via API
- Once the content is uploaded, in the new “Transcriptions” tab, you will have the option to review and edit AI-generated transcripts for accuracy within the transcript editor.
- Upon hitting “Save” on the Transcripts tab, subtitles will be automatically generated to the SRT and WebVTT sidecar formats. All subtitles will be visible and downloadable within the Zype Dashboard on the “Subtitles” tab, and can be easily enabled on videos for playback by toggling on the “Active” switch. AI generated subtitles will not affect any existing subtitles, rather they are automatically added to the "Subtitles" tab as alternative options.
For content that already exists in Zype’s library:
- You can choose to transcribe an existing video or bulk transcribe multiple videos within your Zype Library, by navigating to the Video Library view, selecting the Video(s), and and selecting “Transcribe”
To Edit Transcriptions:
- After AI transcription, you can edit the resulting text via the Zype Dashboard Transcription Editor, if needed. Zype will automatically generate new subtitles reflective of your updates.

How will I be charged?
All Zype customers will be given the ability to transcribe up to 300 minutes of video content each month, free-of-charge. If you exceed 300-minutes of transcribed content, you will incur transcription costs.
AI Transcription Usage Pricing:
- Free Tier: Transcribe up to 300 minutes of video content per month, free of charge
- Paid Tier: Each minute of transcription conducted beyond the first 300-minutes will be billed at $0.05 per minute
Transcription Usage monitoring will be available in the Zype Usage Dashboard and will be updated daily. Any charges incurred as part of the Paid Tier will be applied to your monthly bill.
The ability to generate subtitles based on transcriptions is provided free-of-charge.
