Customizing the Geo Restriction Message Viewers See

When a viewer’s access is blocked by a Content Rule Profile, Zype displays a message in the video player. This message is fully customizable. This article explains how to find and update it.

Where the Message Appears

When a viewer attempts to play content and is blocked by a geo restriction rule, the Zype player displays a message where the video would normally play. The message is composed of:

  • Top Message: A header line shown at the top of the player message (e.g., “We apologize...”).
  • Location Not Found: The body message shown specifically when playback is blocked due to a geographic restriction.

How to Customize the Message

  1. In the CMS Dashboard, navigate to Settings → Player Messaging.
  2. Locate the Location Not Found field.
  3. The default text is: “This content has been geo restricted.”
  4. Replace this with your preferred message. Write in plain language that is appropriate for your audience. Example: “This content is not available in your region. Please contact support if you believe this is an error.”
  5. Optionally update the Top Message field to customize the header line shown with all player error messages.
  6. Save your changes.
Settings → Player Messaging. The “Location Not Found” field controls the message shown to geo-restricted viewers. The default text is “This content has been geo restricted.”

✅  Tip: Keep the message brief and viewer-friendly. Avoid technical language like “geo-restriction” or “DMA” in the viewer-facing message. Consider including a support contact or FAQ link if your audience is likely to reach out.
