Zype has launched Content Rule Profiles — a powerful new framework for managing geographic access restrictions across your video library. This release replaces the previous per-asset content rules approach with a centralized, reusable profile model that gives you greater precision, scalability, and consistency in how you enforce content licensing and regional availability.
What’s New
- Centralized profile management in CMS → Settings → Site Settings → Content Rules Settings
- New geographic targeting: DMA Code, ZIP Code, City, State, Country, IP Address, Region, and Global
- Default Profile toggle — automatically applied to all new videos added to the library
- Built-in Test Content Rules tool to simulate viewer access by location before rules go live
- Mobile GPS enforcement for iOS and Android Apps Creator apps (DMA-based rules)
- Automatic migration of all existing video and playlist content rules — no action required for most customers
- Retirement of category-level content rules
What is a Content Rule Profile?
A Content Rule Profile is a named, reusable set of geographic allow/deny rules. You create profiles in CMS Site Settings, then assign them to videos or playlists. Each profile contains an ordered list of rules that are evaluated top-to-bottom — the first rule that matches a viewer’s location determines whether playback is allowed or denied.
Rules use a firewall-style model: add as many rules as needed, set each rule’s Policy (Allow Access or Deny Access) and Match Type, then drag to reorder. If no rule matches, the default outcome is to allow playback.
New Geographic Match Types
Content Rule Profiles support eight geographic match types, including several that are entirely new:
| Match Type | Description | Availability |
| Global | Matches all viewers regardless of location. Use as a catch-all deny rule at the bottom of a profile. | All regions |
| Country | Restrict or allow by country (ISO code). Available previously; now managed within profiles. | All regions |
| State | Target specific states, provinces, or territories. | All regions |
| City | Target specific cities where geo resolution is available. | Where supported |
| Zip Code | Target US ZIP codes for hyper-local restriction. | US only |
| DMA Code | Target US Designated Market Areas (e.g., 532 = Albany, NY). Ideal for broadcast rights. | US only |
| IP Address | Restrict or allow by specific IP address or range. | All regions |
| Region | Use predefined or custom regional groupings from Apps Creator. | All regions |
What’s Changing for Existing Rules
Video and playlist content rules: Automatically migrated into Content Rule Profiles. No action required. Your content availability is unaffected.
Category content rules: Being retired. Customers who used category rules will need to recreate restrictions using Content Rule Profiles. See the Migration Guide article for details.
