Playlist Thumbnails

Thumbnail images are required for your playlists, as they are used to identify your playlists when publishing to the Web or an OTT app.

The image below shows how thumbnail images are displayed when published in an iOS app.

If you notice empty black boxes on the app after publishing a playlist, it means that the playlist does not have any thumbnail images attached to it.

For example, in the screenshot below of a Roku app, the first and second playlists have thumbnail images attached to them, while the third playlist does not have a thumbnail image.

To ensure that these black boxes do not appear when you publish your playlists, you need to add a thumbnail image to the playlist.

NOTE: Depending on your endpoint, certain playlist thumbnails may not appear. For example, in Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV (Java), and Roku, all first tier (parent) playlists display playlist title only. In these cases, playlist thumbnails appear only at the second tier (child) playlist level.

To Add a Thumbnail to a Playlist

Before you get started, you'll want to make sure the image you'd like to use as your playlist thumbnail is of the following specifications:

  • The thumbnail should have a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Note: Keep in mind, the larger the pixel size of the thumbnail, the slower the load time. So we suggest approximately 854px x 480px in dimension while maintaining a 16:9 aspect ratio.

To add a thumbnail image to a playlist, follow the steps below.

  1. On the Zype navigation menu, click Playlists.
  2. On the Playlists page, select the playlist to be attached with a thumbnail image, then click the Playlist name.
