Zype’s Text Replacement feature gives you fine-grained control over the output of AI-generated transcriptions and subtitles. This is especially helpful when you want to correct frequent transcription errors, enforce specific terminology, or standardize phrasing across your content.
What Are Text Replacements?
Text Replacements allow you to define custom substitutions that are automatically applied to AI-generated transcriptions and subtitle files. These rules run after the transcription is complete and before the subtitles are saved.
For example:
-
If the AI frequently mishears your brand name “Zype” as “Zy pe,” you can configure a replacement so that “Zy pe” is always corrected to “Zype.”
-
If you prefer British spelling conventions, you can change “color” → “colour.”
-
If a speaker uses colloquial terms that you want standardized, like “gonna” → “going to,” you can automate that too.
How to Add a Text Replacement
-
Navigate to your Zype Site Settings.
-
Click the AI Enablement Settings tab.
-
Under the Transcription section, locate the Text Replacements area.
-
Click + New Replacement to add a new rule.
-
Enter:
-
Original: The word or phrase you want to replace.
-
Replacement: The corrected or preferred word or phrase.
-
Language: The language this rule applies to.
-
Match Case: Toggle ON if you want the replacement to only apply when the original casing matches exactly.
-
-
Click Save Changes to apply your updates.
Manage Replacements from the Transcriptions Page
You can also manage your text replacements directly from the Video Transcriptions page in the Zype CMS. Look for the Manage Replacements button in the top-right corner of the page. Clicking this will take you directly to the AI Enablement Settings tab where you can review, edit, or add new text replacement rules without navigating through Site Settings manually.
Examples
Original | Replacement | Use Case |
---|---|---|
Zy pe | Zype | Brand name correction |
color | colour | Enforce UK English spelling |
uhh | [pause] | Standardize filler words |
gonna | going to | Formalize speech in subtitles |
10:30 am | 10:30 a.m. | Consistent time formatting |
Best Practices
-
Use case matching only when necessary—leave it OFF for broader corrections.
-
Keep replacements short and specific to avoid unintended changes.
-
Update your replacements periodically based on transcription review and feedback.
Where This Applies
These replacements are applied to:
-
AI-generated transcriptions
-
AI-generated SRT and WebVTT subtitle files
They are not retroactive to previously generated subtitles, but will apply to all future transcriptions processed after the change.
