January 2025 - Release Notes

This month's release notes include: 

Zype Streaming Platform

NEW

  • New Zype Analytics 3 Details Pages
    Detailed analytics pages now exist for high-level objects and anchor metrics (e.g., Playlists, Videos, Consumers, Hours Watched, Viewers, Plays).
  • Concurrent Viewers Widget
    The concurrent viewers widget is now visible on every page for real-time insights into active viewing sessions.
  • "Top Most Watched" Quick View
    Easily view the most watched Videos, Playlists, or Consumers by appending top_watched to the URL (e.g., https://admin.zype.com/analytics/v3/playlist/top_watched).
  • Enhanced ZObject Capabilities in the CMS
    ZObjects can now be associated with playlists, with improved image updates and expanded API functionality to manage these relationships.
  • Adds Playout Gigabytes to Usage Report
    The Usage Report now includes Playout gigabytes, making it easier to track playout-related bandwidth usage.
  • Ability to Add and Update Self-Hosted URLs via API
    Users can now add and update self-hosted URLs directly through the API for increased flexibility in content management.
  • Add Mezzanine Files to Existing Video Assets
    Users can attach new mezzanine files to videos already in the CMS, streamlining the management of source assets.
  • Duration Fallback Mechanism for MRSS Imports
    Implemented a fallback solution for probing the duration of MRSS-imported assets when source URLs are signed or expired.
  • New ?mute=true Zype Player Embed Parameter
    Enforce muted autoplay by adding ?mute=true to the Zype Player embed URL.
  • Merge Uploaded Videos with Warning
    When merging an uploaded video that is already linked to an existing asset, a warning message now appears to prevent accidental overwriting.

FIXED

  • Bulk Delete Logs
    Resolved an issue where bulk deletes were not properly reflected in the audit logs.
  • Improved Error Messaging on Web Embeds
    Updated embed error messages to provide clearer feedback when incorrect credentials (email, password, etc.) are entered.
  • IRIS.TV Feed Pagination
    Updated the IRIS.TV feed integration to use offset and limit parameters, ensuring more videos are returned to Zype CMS.
  • Subtitle File Validation
    The CMS now prevents empty subtitle files from being uploaded, ensuring only valid subtitle data is accepted.

Zype Apps Creator

NEW

  • "Video is Always-On" Feature
    Allows continuous video playback in the background while users browse content. A “Now Playing” indicator shows the 24/7 stream currently active.

FIXED

Android

  • Casting from Android Mobile to Android TV
    Resolved an issue where under certain conditions, casting from Android Mobile to Android TV would not allow content playback after initiating the cast.
  • Android Interstitial Screen Paragraph Formatting
    Resolved an issue on Android where formatted text in video descriptions would not display correct paragraph spacing on the interstitial screen.
  • “You Have No Items” Message on Android
    Corrected a bug where the “You have no items” message persisted even after items were successfully loaded on Android.
  • Android Mobile Content Order
    Fixed a problem causing content to appear in the incorrect order on some Android mobile devices under certain conditions.

iOS/tvOS

  • Sidecar VTT Files on iOS/tvOS
    Corrected a bug causing iOS/tvOS to fail at supporting sidecar VTT caption files under certain conditions.
  • Event Display Time for iOS/tvOS
    Ensured the correct timezone is honored, fixing incorrect event times on Apple devices.
  • Unintended Layout Updates on iOS
    Prevented an unnecessary layout refresh triggered on the interstitial screen in iOS apps.
  • Preview Parameter on tvOS
    Ensured tvOS properly respects the preview parameter within subsections.

Roku

  • Incorrect Thumbnails on Roku
    Fixed an issue on the Roku platform where the thumbnails of the last two titles in a playlist were displayed before the first title’s thumbnail
  • Roku Content Discovery Enhancements
    Improved content discovery by preventing truncated section names and titles on Roku.
  • Update to "Continue Watching" on Roku
    Resolved an issue on the Roku platform where the "Continue Watching" dynamic playlist was not populating as expected, despite being visible across other endpoints

LG

  • LG Device Navigation
    Fixed a navigation issue on LG devices where the left and right UI buttons became unresponsive when creating an account or logging in via email.

Web

  • Horizontal Scrolling in Full Screen Layout
    Addressed a web issue where horizontal scrolling became underperformant for catalogs with over 250 items.

Multi-Platform Updates

  • Hyperlink Display in VOD Interstitial Screens
    Fixed an issue where hyperlinks were not appearing correctly on VOD interstitials.
  • Interstitial Ads Loading
    Fixed an issue where interstitial ads did not load when videos were played with a custom display configuration.
  • Section Level Interstitial Preview Image
    Addressed a problem where the preview image would not show under specific dimension or configuration conditions.
  • Inline Video List Accessibility After Autoplay
    Resolved an issue preventing access to the inline video list after the next video autoplayed, and removed an unintended alert displaying the currently playing video.
  • Deleted Sections in Apps Creator
    Fixed a reference issue where deleted sections still appeared, preventing conversion of a Limited Series into a Regular Series.
  • Re-subscribing Existing Subscribers
    Fixed an issue where, under certain conditions, previously existing subscribers in Zype CRM were not re-subscribed when going through Apps Creator.

Zype Playout

FIXED

  • Improved sync between CMS and Playout when source video is deleted or updated
    Resolved an issue where deleting or updating a transcoded video in Zype's CMS wouldn’t send the required message to Playout if the original Zype data source was removed. Now, videos are correctly removed or updated in Playout in these scenarios.

  • Updated Playout API Throttling Counters
    Introduces a default limit of 600 requests per minute (RPM) per customer, enhancing system stability and preventing performance bottlenecks.
