Overview

When using Apps Creator, you have two ways to add subtitles: you can do so manually, that is, directly through Apps Creator, or you can associate the subtitles with the video object in the Zype CMS, which will be automatically synced afterwards.

Important: For the subtitles to be available in your videos (consumer facing), please reach out to support@zype.com.

Adding subtitles via Apps Creator

The "Subtitles" dialog is shown for any Media object by tapping on the "Subtitles" action, and allows for the association of subtitle files with media:

How to Use

Click the "+" button in the Subtitles section:

When added manually, an upload button is available for you to upload the subtitle file (in .vtt or .srt format) directly to Apps Creator:

When uploaded in this way, the subtitle is NOT added to Zype CMS. To have subtitles synchronized between both systems, upload your subtitles in Zype CMS and they will appear in Apps Creator automatically.

Adding subtitles via the Zype CMS integration

There are two ways to add subtitles in the CMS: by associating them with the video object in the library (sidecar), or by embedding them into the video. For them to sync with Apps Creator, you will need to add them as sidecar subtitles.

Here are the steps to add sidecar subtitles. If you'd like to read more about the difference between these and embedded subtitles, you can find more information here.

Synchronization

Once you have uploaded the sidecar subtitles, they will look like this in the CMS:

Once successfully uploaded in the CMS, they will be automatically synced with Apps Creator. This might take a few seconds:

Subtitles on the Apps Creator side will be limited to a single audio language, using either the locale’s language or the default language.

If you need to add the same subtitles for a different audio language, you will need to create a separate subtitle object and associate it with this language. This cannot be done when uploading via the CMS integration, only when uploading directly to Apps Creator.

Note: If you delete a subtitle object from the CMS, the associated object will also be deleted from Apps Creator.
