How to Set Up a Custom Domain for your Web App

Map a pre-existing or newly purchased domain to your Web app.

Firstly, you should have purchased a domain from a third-party provider where it should be registered with them. You will just need to change a few settings in your registrar's account in order to connect it to your Web App.

Important Note: As some Domain Name providers does not allow adding a CNAME entry for the Apex Domain, we suggest using a subdomain as a custom domain for your web app.

Some popular examples are:
app.mydomain.com
watch.mydomain.com
binge.mydmain.com etc.

How to add a custom domain to your web app, on Apps Creator?

Step 1: Login to your Apps Creator Dashboard and navigate to Manage>>Platforms.

Step 2: Scroll down the list and click on Edit button (Pencil Icon) next to the Web Platform item to open the Web Platform setup form.

Step 3: Add your Zype sub-domain and Custom Domain here. Your Zype sub-domain should work right out of the box, but any initial change to either domain will take about 5-10 minutes to propagate. Please note that your Custom Domain should be all lower case.

Important note: In the above example: myamazingdomain.com is my Apex Domain that I have purchased and watch.myamazingdomian.com is the sub domain that I want to use as the URL for my Web app.

Additional configuration is required with your domain provider for linking the domain to your Web App. Follow the steps below to make the necessary changes to the DNS settings of your Custom Domain.

Step 1: Log into your third-party Domain Account, i.e. GoDaddy, Namecheap, easyDNS, HostGator, Name.com, etc.

Step 2: Find your DNS settings. Depending on your provider, this may be called Zone File Settings, Manage Domains, Domain Manager, DNS Manager, or something similar. Here is where you'll create these records so your domain correctly links to your Web App.

Step 3: Add a CNAME Record in your Domain Account. A CNAME record points your custom domain to Zype Web app. The CNAME value should be your subdomain URL that you configured on the Apps Creator dashboard. For example, in step 3 above, we added the subdomain as vijays-app, so the CNAME value will be vijays-app.maz.tv.

This is how your DNS records will look like after adding the required CNAME entry:

Your custom domain should now be mapped to the Zype Web App. Most domains will connect to a site within 24 hours but can take up to 72 hours.
