Multiple Monetization

Multiple monetization refers to applying different monetization types to content. Zype supports this on the video or playlist level. There are many different options on how to monetize, so it’s all about the ideal user experience and your business goals.

Multiple monetization within a video:

Use case: I want to allow a user to subscribe for access to the video or purchase the individual video.

How:  So long as your account settings have been properly adjusted to support multiple monetization, under the Monetization tab of the video details page for the specific video, you can toggle both subscription and purchase ON.

What: If you embed this video on your site, a user will see a paywall requiring either subscription or purchase to view the video. On application endpoints, a user will be prompted to sign in or link their account to view the walled video once selected.

Pro: You can have unique monetization set per video

Con: N/A

Multiple monetization within a playlist:

Use case: I want to allow user to access the first five videos of my playlist for free while requiring them to subscribe to view the rest.

How: First make sure all your videos are set with their individual monetizations properly; in the use case example, make sure the first five videos are “Free” (by making sure all toggles within the Monetization tab are left OFF) while the remainder of videos are toggled to ON for “Require Subscription.” Next, under the Monetization tab of the playlist details page, toggle “Require Subscription” ON.

What: If you embed this playlist on your site, a user will see a paywall requiring subscription to view content within this playlist. If a user does not subscribe to the playlist, the user cannot access the free content unless it is also available elsewhere outside this playlist. On application endpoints, a user will be free to watch any free videos, and then be prompted to sign in or link their account to view walled videos once selected.

Pro: Users can access free and subscription content from a single playlist on your apps

Con: Users on web will not be able to access free content housed in a monetized playlist unless the free content exists elsewhere outside the monetized playlist.

In summary, we suggest picking the cleanest and simplest monetization setup to start and optimize from there. You can always adjust your monetization later in the platform. If you to decide to test out a new type of monetization, keep in mind that web embeds may need to be adjusted and apps may need to be resubmitted.
