Enabling a Video as Playout Ad or Playout Bumper in the Zype CMS

As you've read in Adding and Editing Video Details, selecting a video from your Library will bring you to the video details view. Here you can add metadata to your video that is useful in organizing and managing your content.

You can set any video you'd like to act as a playout ad or playout bumper via the Zype CMS, and this will correspond to an "ad" or "bumper" asset type when Playout 2.0 is launched. These asset types are helpful in programming and will be filterable when using the Asset Panel filters. See also Introduction to the Asset Panel

Setting a Video as a Playout Ad

To set a video as a playout ad, scroll to the Playout Ad toggle on the video details view and change it to the ON position.

Once the setting is saved, you can enter the Edit Timeline view of the Playout Scheduler Tool to locate your video in the Asset Panel. Filter by asset type = Ad:

Once you've located the video, you can program it into the timeline.

Zype automatically generates SCTE markers according to the duration of this video, to ensure an ad request is sent at the beginning of the video and another signal is sent at the end of the video to resume regular programming.

Please ensure that at least one video in your Zype library has "Playout Ad" turned ON. Any videos set as a Playout Ad will appear in the following places:

  • "Fallback Slate" and "Default Ad Slate" drop-downs that appear when Configuring a New Channel.
  • "Ad Slate" drop-down that appears in HLS Channel Destinations - this option will override the "Default Ad Slate" at the channel level

These slates will act as fallbacks for programming (Fallback Slate) and ad-fill (Ad Slate) gaps.

Setting a Video as a Playout Bumper

To set a video as a playout bumper, scroll to the Playout Bumper toggle on the video details view and change it to the ON position.

Bumpers are particularly useful as transitionary videos between Track Items. Once the setting is saved you can filter the Asset Panel for this asset type for easy programming. Note: These videos do not generate SCTE markers and are not the same as ads.

Saving Video Details

As with any metadata changes you are making, select "Save Details" when you are done to ensure these changes are applied.

You can relaunch Playout 2.0 to see the changes appear in the Asset Panel.
