Important Note: Google will stop processing data for Universal analytics from July 1, 2023. GA4 or Firebase analytics is the new Analytics platform released by Google to take over the Universal Analytics.
What is Google Universal Analytics?
Google Universal Analytics is a web analytics tool to help you analyse your website/apps traffic and engagement.
Google Universal Analytics offers the following key features:

How to setup Google Universal Analytics
In order for your app to be able to collect user engagement data and report it to Google Analytics, it needs the tracking ID which you will get from your Google Analytics property in the Google Analytics dashboard. To generate the tracking ID, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Login to the Google Analytics Dashboard. If you do not have an account yet, please create one by following this article.
Step 2: In the Analytics Dashboard, Click on Admin at the bottom left corner of the page.
Step 3: Now click the + Create Property button as shown below.
Step 4: Enter your Property details. Be sure to click "Show advanced options" and toggle on the Universal Analytics property. Also, check the box for "Create a Universal Analytics property only".
Step 5: Add any additional information regarding your business.
Step 6: Your new property will be created and your new Tracking ID, a number starting with UA- will be displayed on the screen. This is your GA Tracking ID. Copy and save this tracking ID, you will add this to your Apps Creator Dashboard in the later steps.
Step 7: Next, in "Admin", edit the following settings(exactly as mentioned below) in the new "Web" property you created
a) Under the property column, go to Custom Definitions > Custom Dimensions and add a custom dimension at index 1, name it "PlatformName" and set the scope as "Session"
b) For index 2, add "ContentURL" and set the scope as "Hit"
c) Under the View column, click on "+ Create View" and select "Mobile App", give it any name and save.
d) Under the View column, go to "Ecommerce Settings" and turn ON "Enable Ecommerce" and "Enable Enhanced Ecommerce Reporting".
Step 8: Open your Apps Creator Dashboard and navigate to Design >> Platforms and fill in the Google Analytics Tracking ID for each Platform.
