How can we help?

YouTube Import Follow

Zype provides a powerful and easy-to-use service for customers who want to import videos from their YouTube channels and playlists into the platform. This is useful for any customer who has a library of videos on YouTube and wants to organize them in a single place for easy management and distribution.

Videos imported from YouTube can be added to playlists, have metadata updated, and be distributed to the web and/or other OTT endpoints upon meeting certain requirements.

Zype’s YouTube Import tool offers three paths for importing content from YouTube into your Zype Video Library:

  • Import a single video from a YouTube link
  • Import an entire YouTube channel or selected videos from a YouTube channel
  • Import a video from a YouTube channel connected to your Zype account

You can skip to the set of directions that applies to how you will be importing content from YouTube within this article.

NOTE: You must be the licensed owner of the content you import from YouTube to Zype.

Navigating to the YouTube Import Tool

To import content from YouTube to your Zype Video Library, go to the YouTube Import tool. In the Zype dashboard, click Import & Upload, then on the Import & Upload page, click YouTube.

6. Click Next.

7. On the next page, select either Import metadata only or Import content and metadata, then configure the rest of the import settings.

Importing metadata and content means that you can publish your content to OTT apps, e.g. Apple TV, Roku, and Opera TV. For more information surrounding your decision to import metadata only or content as well, check out our documentation on supported video sources and endpoints herePlease note, in order to use the Import Content and Metadata option, you MUST authenticate to your YouTube channel during Step 1 of the YouTube import flow.

Importing Metadata Only: If you choose to import metadata only, the videos will instantly be available in your video library after completing the import process. However, importing metadata alone means a limited, web-only publishing option in Zype since the content will still be hosted on YouTube.

Importing Content and Metadata: If you choose to import both metadata and content, importing and transcoding the videos can take from anywhere between one to several days, depending on the volume of content being imported. Again, keep in mind that in order to use this option, you must first authenticate to your YouTube channel during Step 1 of the YouTube import flow.

8. If you choose to import all videos on the channel in Step 4, by default, the Auto-add option is set to On, meaning all subsequent new videos added to your YouTube channel will also automatically be imported to your Zype video library. If you selected individual videos in Step 5, the Auto-add option is set to Off by default, meaning that the videos will not be automatically added to your video library. You may turn the Auto-add option ON or OFF, depending on your requirements.

9. By default, the Auto-activate toggle is turned to OFF, meaning that the videos will not be viewable by your consumers until activated manually in Zype. You may turn this ON to activate videos automatically once they have been added to your Zype video library.

10. Enter a name for the import to help you better organize your library, then select a category for the import.

11. Click Complete Import.

12. Depending on your choice of whether to import metadata only or both metadata and content, you will see a confirmation message that the videos have either been imported or are awaiting import processing and that a Zype representative will contact you once the import is finished.

NOTE: Import processing time will depend on the number of videos in the channel.

Once you receive word from us that your videos have been imported into your Video Library, you can view or edit the details of each video. For more details, see Adding & Editing Video Details.

Importing Content from a Connected YouTube Channel

You also have the option to connect your YouTube account to your Zype account first, then import the videos from your own YouTube channel. Click the Connect to Account button to begin, then proceed with the Google authorization instructions. As a reminder, you must use this option if you plan to Import Content and Metadata for distribution on OTT set-top and mobile apps like Apple TV, Roku, iOS, etc.
