Easily Stream a High Quality Live Event or Linear Live Feed

Zype offers push button live stream creation that can be completed in only a few simple steps.

Turn On Your Zype Cloud Encoder

Before you create your event, you will want to ensure that your Zype cloud encoder has been turned on. You will typically want to turn it on 5-10 minutes before your event starts, to provide sufficient time for it to be running.

1. In the Zype admin, click settings, Manage Encoders. Or to access the page directly, go to encode.zype.com

2. If you have multiple encoders, locate the one you will be streaming to and set it to the on state. When it is successfully turned on, you will see a message at the top as displayed below:

Note: You will want to turn off your encoder when your event is over, following the same steps.

Create a Live Event

1. On the Zype navigation menu, click Live Events.

2. On the Live Events page, click Create a Live Event.

NOTE: All your current live events are listed at the bottom of this page. Once you have scheduled a live event to be shown at some future time, you can go back to this page and click the Broadcast button to the right to start broadcasting the event.

To edit the settings of a live event that has not yet aired, click the Edit button to the right of the live event.

To view your past live events, click the Past Events tab.

3. On Page 1 of the Live Event wizard, Zype will enter a default title for your event using the current date and time. You may change this if you want.

4. Enter a description for your event, then select the event type from the list. Event types may be either on-demand or linear. On-demand events have a fixed DVR window and are recommended for scheduled events. Linear events have a sliding DVR window and are recommended for 24/7 events.

5. If you selected Linear as your event type in Step 4, a DVR box with the default rate set to 1080 is displayed right below the Event Type box. You may either stick with the default rate or change it to your preferred rate.

6. Optionally, you may customize your live slate and brand your player by uploading an off air image and player logo, respectively. The recommended size of the off air image is 1920x1080 pixels while that of the player logo is 48x48 pixels. The live slate will be used over your player before the start and at the end of a broadcast. The logo will be displayed on the top right of the video player. By default, your video player will display the Zype live slate but will not have a logo.

7. Click Continue.

8. On Page 2 of the Live Event wizard, select the monetization options that will be available for the event. You should have previously defined these options under the Monetization page (see Getting Started with Monetization for more details). Not choosing an option means that your live event will be free.

9. Once you have chosen the monetization options, click Continue.

10. On Page 3 of the Live Event wizard, choose the time of your event. Click Broadcast Now to immediately start broadcasting your event. Otherwise, select the start and end date and time of your event, then click Continue.

create-live-event5.pngIf you choose to start broadcasting your event at this step, you have nothing more to do except wait until the event ends. If you choose to schedule your event at some future date and time, you may proceed to Step 11.

11. On Page 4 of the Live Event wizard, the configuration settings for your live event are displayed. Here, you may preview your player and live stream by clicking the Show Player and Show Stream links below the video player.create-live-event6.png

You can also enter the input, video, and audio URLs that are displayed here into your own streaming hardware or software tool. The input URL will allow your own streaming hardware or software tool to connect to the Zype streaming servers using the provided RTMP username and password; the video and audio URLS will then allow you to broadcast the video feed and the optional audio-only feed using your own tool.

NOTE: You can enable multi-bitrate by broadcasting multiple RTMP streams.

At the bottom, click the Copy to clipboard button to copy the broadcast’s embed code. You can then paste the embed code anywhere on your website - this will display the player on your website, ready to broadcast the event as it becomes available.

On the bottom right, you will also see a few examples of how you can request live videos using the Zype API. For more details about the Zype API, go to the Zype Developer Portal.

NOTE: Your live event has been saved to your list of live events at this point. If the scheduled date and time for the event is days or weeks away, you may exit the wizard at this time, then come back and click the Broadcast button to the right of the saved live event when the time comes. You may also pick up where you left off by proceeding to Step 12 of this guide.

Embed Your Stream Code to Your Site

1. Copy the embed code from the Publishing and Distribution section on the page

2. Embed the code to your website

3. When you are ready to broadcast your event, click Start Broadcast. Click Yes on the confirmation message to start broadcasting your event. You may need to wait for at least 30 seconds before your event starts broadcasting.
