Below is a list of frequently asked questions Zype receives about the Analytics provided to each account. If you don't see a question that has been asked yet, drop us a note and email email@example.com.
Q. Why don’t Zype player impressions match the impressions listed in my external analytics platform?
A. Some analytics providers' method of tracking impressions differs from Zype. Zype counts an impression when a player has successfully loaded on a page, or in other terms when Zype receives a 200 from an API call.
Q. How are stream hours tracked?
A. Stream hours are calculated by tracking the amount of data (or bytes) are processed by Zype, the type of VOD presets available for that stream, over a period of time. This measurement is taken from all devices and endpoints.
Q. How do I know how many Transcode Hours I have used in a given time period?
A. You can view this on your Usage Report, accessible through the Settings page of the Zype Admin. For details on how to access this report and read it, view our article HERE.
Q. Why don’t my stream hours match my hours watched?
A. Zype calculates stream hours as a number of bytes, or data, processed through Zype for all devices and endpoints and includes buffering time. Hours watched are calculated by the amount of time a consumer watches a video, on Web only. Generally speaking, you'll see a higher number of Stream Hours than Hours Watched.
Q. Why I cannot retrieve my Hours Watched past 90 days?
A. Engagement data is only directly accessible via our API and reports for 90 days because the data warehouse that stores our engagement only makes it effectively accessible for that amount of time.
Q. How is ad revenue tracked in Zype?
A. This data is tracked by third party ad providers. Zype does not have access to this data.
Q. How is revenue tracked in Zype?
A. If you are using Stripe, Braintree or Recurly and have the appropriate webhooks created, Zype will be able to track all transactions made through the platform. If you are using a third party provider Zype does not support, revenue and transactions cannot be tracked.
Q. How do I find out which consumers have been most active?
A. Zype does not currently track most active users.
Q. How do I view a list of canceled subscribers, does Zype track this?
A. Yes. You can view subscriber information by navigating to "Make Money". From there, click the "Subscriptions" section on the right side of the page. The Subscription page will list out all consumers that have paid for a subscription to view your videos. You can filter subscribers by "Status" or "Cancelled At".
Note: Subscriptions that have been cancelled through the embeds will not be reflected here, as they are removed from this section when this happens. However, in that case, you will be able to see past subscriptions if you download a Consumer report instead.
Q. Why does the Revenue Models report show ‘AVOD’ model? I don’t use ads.
A. If you don't use ads as a form of monetizing your videos and have no other form of monetization, Zype's default revenue model defaults to AVOD. This means that your content is free.
Q. Our company needs a monthly or quarterly revenue earned report, how can I generate this report?
A. Navigate to the Analytics section. From there, look for the "Monthly Revenue" module. In the "Monthly Revenue" page, you'll see all the revenue made for the past 30 days. You can select from a date range to view the report. Once you have selected the desired date range, click "Export" next to the "Refresh" button.
Q. How do I find out impressions for my SmartTV endpoint?
A. In the analytics section, you'll find a "Devices" module. This module tracks the impressions made on each endpoint.
Q. How do I see total quantity of apps downloaded? Breakdown per app?
A. Each app tracks downloads in their platform. To access the analytics, log into your developer account. The available analytics for each channel will be found in your account.
Q. Can I view a list of hours watched time by consumers?
A. In the analytics section, you can find an “Hours Watched” module which will display the total amount of hours consumers have watched your content. It does not provide a breakdown of hours watch by each consumer, however.
Q. I know videos have been watched on Roku but I don’t see any minutes watched?
A. Minutes watched can be found in your Roku developer account inside each channel you own. Log into your developer account, choose the channel you’d like to analyze, click "Analytics", and find the “minutes watched” section.
Q. Can I view Most Watched videos by an individual consumer?
A. For individual consumers, we collect data on the following:
- Video Player Impressions
- Geographic location
- Revenue Model (type of subscription)
- Operating System
- Total Plays
- Average Play (average time in minutes the video played)
- Hours watched (hours a video was played)
Q. Can I view a list of videos individual consumers watched?
A. Zype does not track the individual videos watched by consumers
Q. Can I access the data with API?
A. Zype does not offer API endpoints for analytics. To review analytics, you must view them in the admin dashboard.
Q. What is the difference between player impressions and plays?
A. A player impression is tracked when a video player successfully loads on a page, impressions only counting that a consumer was able to see the video. A play is tracked when a consumer watches the video by clicking “play”.
Q. How is a player impression tracked?
A. A player impression is tracked when a video successfully loads on a screen. If there was an error that prevented the player to load, there is no impression counted.
Q. Does Zype provide consumer level analytics?
A. Yes, Zype provides the following consumer details:
- Consumer email
- Consumer ID
- Stripe, Braintree or Recurly ID
- Videos the consumer is entitled to
- Playlists the consumer is entitled to
- Pass plans the consumer purchased
- Subscriptions the consumer purchased
- Number of transactions consumers have made
- Last sign in date
- Linked Devices
- Consumer-created date
- Video Play Impressions
- Geography by country
- Device type
- Video Player type
- Operating System
- Total Plays
- Average amount of plays
- Hours Watched
Q. Does Zype track ad impressions?
A. Zype tracks when an ad request is made. An ad request is determined by the presence of a valid ad tag for a video, and an ad timing. Zype cannot guarantee that an ad will be served at the time of the request, that is dependent on the inventory of the ad server.
Q. Does Zype track ad CPMs?
A. No, Zype does not track CPMs.
Q. Does Zype provide live stream analytics?
A. Zype tracks stream hours for live streaming.
Q. Does Zype provide real-time analytics?
A. Currently, Zype does not offer real-time analytics
Q. How often are Zype’s analytics updated?
A. Analytics in Zype is updated on a nightly basis for the previous day.
Q. Is there a delay with how long updated analytics will take to appear on the platform?
A. It usually takes about 24 hours for updated analytics to appear on the platform. During this time, the data may appear as an "unknown" item within the reports.
Q. What does the "unknown" consumer detail means?
A. Unknown consumer usually means that the Zype system was not able to properly identify the player request data. This can be caused by several scenarios, such as AVOD content (consumers do not need to log in to watch the content), or a consumer having blockers in place that are preventing our system from properly capturing the request data.
Q. If I delete a video asset from my library, does the analytic data for that asset get deleted from the reports as well?
A. No, Zype's system does not delete the analytics data for a removed video object, instead, the video will be listed within the reports in this way: Title (deleted). Although you'll not be able to access the video metadata anymore, you'll be able to see the viewership performance of the asset on both engagement and streaming analytics reports.
